In this module we will explore the doctrine of the Holy Spirit from biblical and theological angles. This is not a course in biblical theology–eschatology might feature more prominently if that were so—and the approach will reflect this difference. We will, firstly, build upon the consensus of biblical interpretation in the history of the church rather than attempting to reinvent the wheel. Therefore we start with the official dogma of the church before moving to consider the biblical material. This approach will avoid the danger of concocting new constructions for the sake of it, while rooting our thinking in the historic consensus fidelium. What we seek is a properly Christian understanding of the person and work of the Spirit.

Dr. Letham has authored numerous books, including The Work of Christ (IVP Academic, 1993); The Holy Trinity (Presbyterian & Reformed, 2004); The Westminster Assembly: Reading Its Theology in Historical Context (Presbyterian & Reformed, 2009); Union with Christ (Presbyterian & Reformed, 2011); and Systematic Theology (Crossway, 2019).
